We congratulate Mr. Thony on this prestigious title and we wish him a long and fruitful Presidency.

ISISC also wishes to express his immense gratitude to Professor M. Cherif Bassiouni, who has been the President of the Institute for the last 27 years (from 1988 to 2015) and has dedicated tireless efforts and energy to the visionary project of making of this Institute a true center of excellence, known worldwide for its work in the field of criminal justice, promotion of human rights and strengthening the rule of law. Under Professor Bassiouni's presidency, thousands of jurists from all over the world met in Siracusa. From these contacts, friendships developed, as well as a better understanding of cultural diversity. While such contributions cannot be quantitatively assessed, their intellectual and moral impact is surely significant, since they disseminated the Institute’s message of respect for the rule of law and human rights, and for values of universal humanism.
